An indictment handed down Thursday accuses Edward Degner, 54, of committing 18 different crimes. The indictment says Degner used his Rifle-based business, Ed's Custom Painting, to steal the bikes.

The motorcycles used in the chop shop were stolen from the Denver area and other parts of the state and targeted several brands including Harley Davidson and American Iron Horse, according to the indictment. Degner is suspected of stealing the bikes, switching and destroying the identification numbers in addition to re-stamping fraudulent VINs onto the vehicles and concealing their identity by repainting them.

Degner's charges include 14 counts of first-degree aggravated motor theft. His next court date is set for May 11.
