The buzz. We all know the feeling, but we can’t label it – that low-frequency, high energy hum when a couple hundred of your two-wheeled brethren take reign over the streets. This is the ICON lifestyle, this is what we do best. So when Kawasaki asked if we wanted to be involved with their Gaslamp Takeover event, of course we were on board.
This wasn’t a sales event, the Gaslamp Takeover was defined from the start to offer the sportbike rider the best show on the streets. So, Jason Britton, Leah Stunts, Eric Bostrom, and a deep catalog of ICON product were brought in, three city blocks were closed off in San Diego’s Gaslamp district, the sun went down, and the music went up. Gaslamp Takeover was on.
Filthy, nasty displays of power were on order courtesy of Jason Britton and Team No Limit. ICON had signature artist Tanner Goldbeck – the man behind your favorite helmet designs – on hand for a custom installation. The fastest fashion show on earth was operated by Leah Petersen and Eric Bostrom. There was a live DJ and Allan Lane of Sportbike Inc. on the mic to MC the event. Finally, Kawasaki sacrificed a beater car to the moto-gods for some thrashing via a dirtbike and sport bike melee.
The result was a high-octane event for the records. ICON riders came out en force to show their support, and downtown San Diego’s atmosphere was engulfed with the sound of supersport fury.
Sportbike riders don’t often come together, but when they do, the city knows it.
Thank you again Kawasaki for having us out, and a thank you to all our fans for showing San Diego what ICON is all about.
Let’s do this again some time.
